Looking for an uncle if not a khnami

As the July 7, 2026 election gets closer in Armenia, I am left with the impression that the election campaign is turning into a litmus test between having close-door Russian bear for an uncle, if not a khnami; or the distant American eagle for an uncle, if not a khnami. For all practical purposes, the merits of TRIPP and/or crossroad for peace initiative for sovereign Armenia, are not on the opposition campaign platforms.

Seeking an uncle seems to be engrained in the Armenian secular or clerical psyche that has never experienced sovereignty for an appreciable period of time and seems reluctant to embrace sovereignty and debate whether TRIPP and/or crossroad for peace initiative are for the best interest of a sovereign Armenia or not.

Instead, the debate is turning into whether  the close door Russia makes a better uncle or the distant America makes the better uncle, if not a khnami, to the  Armenians.

It is doubtful that Russia or America are interested in quardianship. Naturally, they are for their own interests as Armenia should be for its own interest.

As far as I am concerned, TRIPP, and the crossroad for peace initiative, seem plausible and doable, because of shared interest between Armenia, Turkey/Azerbaijan and the U.S.  Hopefully the opposition in Armenia realizes it and does not disrupt these initiatives at the urging of Russia.
