The PM Nikol Pashinyan framing his ideology as Real Armenia, has created a backlash, obstructing a rational and objective debate. If I were the PM, I would have framed the ideology Constitutional Armenia he must advocate. Real Armenia is the Constitutional Armenia.
The following historical facts constitute the foundation of the Republic of Armenia. On August 23, 1990, Levon Ter-Petrossian, the president of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Armenia, signed the historic Hrchagakir, the declaration of Independence. The first article of the declaration states “The Armenian SSR is renamed the Republic of Armenia (Armenia). The Republic of Armenia shall have its flag, coat of arms, and anthem.” That is to say, the first article of DOI states that the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic henceforth will be called Republic of Armenia, in short Armenia, which will have its own flag, coat of Arms and anthem which will be different from the flag, the coat of Arms and hymn of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia.
Had there not been the First Republic of Armenia, there would not have been Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia and subsequently the present Republic of Armenia.
As a nation, we accepted the Declaration of Independence, and incorporated it in the Constitution in 1995. As a matter of fact, a vocal segment of the Armenians has positioned themselves against removing the Hrchagakir from the Constitution. The irony is that the same segment of Armenia is positioning itself against the very same constitutional Armenia they advocate which the PM calls Real Armenia.
It is also a matter of historical fact that since May 28, 1918 Armenia has not made the recognition, reparation, and restitution of the Genocide and the Armenian historical lands, as constituents of Armenia’s policy. The reason for such a policy must be understood by Armenians across the globe. If not, it is to our demise.
During the 35th Independence Celebration on the Republic Square in Yerevan, Armenia, the master of ceremonies read values Armenia upholds. The same values the PM Nikol Pashinyan public ally innumerate during his May 7, 2024 televised public presentation. (see the link 1 below).
PM Nikol Pashinyan did not mention the recognition, reparation and restitution of the Genocide and the Armenian historical lands during his May 7, 2024 televised addressed. The same was not mentioned during the 35th anniversary of Independence celebration. (see link 2 below).
Perch (Berj) Zeytuntsyan (Armenian: Պերճ Արմենակի Զեյթունցյան; July 18, 1938 – August 21, 2017), was an Armenian playwright and screenwriter who served as the Minister of Culture of Armenia from 1990 to 1991. He summed our ideological framework claiming, “We have a score to settle. The best way to exact that retribution is to build a prosperous country right under the Turk’s nose—a nation that is morally strong and cleansed of filth and squalor—so that Armenians, rather than emigrating, will want to return to their homeland.” See the link below for the full text.
It is within this framework, that the PM advocates values for Armenia and Armenians and he must and I support it.
Labelling it Real Armenia ideology or Constitutional Armenia ideology is a matter of semantics and not a matter of substance.
