 Attached is my aided translation of Hagop Ladoyan’s short, heart felt post in Azrag Daily on September 5, 2026. Hagop Ladoyan (Յակոբ Լատոյեան) is a prominent member of the Lebanese Armenian community. His commentary was posted under the header: “Viewpoint: A necessity - Տեսակէտ. “As a matter of fact, the current situation of the Diaspora communities reveals a worrisome and a bleak situation.

The Diaspora has never been so weak and in so much turmoil in its history.

No matter how much we try to show that everything is well; in reality we all know that we are facing serious and difficult challenges.

The educational, communal, national, intellectual, religious or civic picture is a far cry what it used to be.

Articles or lectures that raise these concerns from time to time are not enough for us to have a new start for our communities. Today, it is necessary to create discussion platforms. We should have the courage to have honest and transparent discussions about everything and find solutions.

The Diaspora was, is and will remain important for the years to come.

We need to review the status quo of the Diaspora communities and bring about solution for the sake of the resiliency of the communities and for the prosperity of the homeland.

We should not politicize every phenomenon; nor should we should we criticize or see everything rosy.

Let us remain realistic.

Discussion platforms contribute to the exchange of broad ideas, crystallization and clarification.

Coordination is necessary so that we can make a new start to strengthen our collective life. It is true that each community has its own characteristics, but all of them feel the importance of participating, for clarifying principles and developing a perspective program.

There is the impression that things are being left neglected. There is a great wave of indifference among the young, and those who have the potential, have withdrawn and isolated themselves for various reasons.

It is not too late.

Discussions, exchanges of ideas, and the exertion of forces will help the work for opening new horizons.”
