Forty years after the Lisbon Operation, what did we learn? What did we implement, and what targets did we aim?
Much has been said, written, and sung about the Lisbon Operation; that it was not only an armed operation, but that it also had different objectives. Some say it is a textbook. Others say it is a story. Some say they are saints. Others say they are idols. They may say and may continue on saying. But who continues their mission and how? How do they transmit the message of the martyrs? Celebrating anniversaries, lecturing, repairing their graves, writing songs about them are not enough to move forward to attain a free, independent and united Armenia.
Today I would like to highlight and focus on the "giving up" or "yielding" (զիջիլ) aspect from the many facets of the Lisbon Operation. Today we just need to give up and not be stubborn. I say this much like "Nasreddin Khoja", who proverbially has said that he is a man and that his words come from his mouth only once. “Giving up”, yes, but what and to who? Of course, not to the enemy. We don't have the right to give up or yield to the enemy even a hair, a millimeter, or even a document. We only have to demand and oblige the enemy.
What did the boys of the Lisbon Operation, Ara, Setrak, Simon, Vache and Sarkis, give up? For the sake of their mission, for the success of their operation, for their vision of a free, independent and united Armenia. They gave up their lives, they gave up their pride, they gave up their fears, they gave up their families, their longings, their dreams, and above all, they gave up their EGO. They put aside everything, everything, and everything in the true sense of the word. They forgave everyone. They even forgave those who did not forgive them, and those who sent them to the fold of certain death. They were thus purified, they were rebaptized, and they finished their job with success in quotation mark.
Today, 40 years later, all of us as leaders or foot soldiers; generalissimo or rank and file, party members or sympathizers, need to learn a little from the lesson of the kind giving up, the boys of the Lisbon Operation exercised. If we do not likewise give up today; if we do not forgive each other, then our disunity will deepen and deepen. Naturally the only end result of disunity, will be collapse. I hope, inspired by our immortal heroes of the Lisbon Operation, that such a collapse will be avoided, as we bow to their message of having giving up or yielding their selves and having forgiven for the sake of the greater cause.
Today, the boys of the Lisbon operation tell us not to talk about them anymore from podiums, as to what time the attack started, and at what time it ended? Who was martyred first? Did a special squad police arrive at the scene? You don't need all of that today. We appeal to you today to arm yourself with compromise, because that is the only way to stand up. We do not need rounded up decades for celebration. We need our homeland. If you don't give up on your ego today, then we will end giving up also the 30 percent of our dreamed, but not unattainable, free, independent and united homeland.
Respectable and not so respectable, state, party, spiritual, or social leaders of today. You have an opportunity to listen to a call from the eternal world. You have an opportunity to fire a bullet, and the target is the mirror. Let each of you stand in front of a mirror, remember the oath you took and fire the Lisbon Operation type bullet so that you understand that with your concessions, we will be strengthened once again and together, we will team with the boys of the Lisbon Operation and we will rise up again. And hand in hand, we will raise our unfinished dream ,-the creation of a free, independent and united Armenia.

Լիզպոնի փամփուշտներէն 40 տարիներ ետք ի՞նչ սորվեցանք կամ սորվածներէն ի՞նչը իրականացուցինք, ո՞ր փամփուշտը կրակեցինք…
Բազմիցս խօսուած է, գրուած է, երգուած է, թէ Լիզպոնի գործողութիւնը լոկ զինեալ գործողութիւն մը չէր, այլ` ունէր տարբեր երեսներ: Ոմանք կ՛ըսեն` դասագիրք է, ուրիշներ կ՛ըսեն` պատմութիւն է, կ՛ըսեն, թէ անոնք սուրբեր են, քուրմեր են, կ՛ըսեն ու կ՛ըսեն, սակայն ո՞վ կը շարունակէ անոնց գործը, որո՞նք եւ ինչպէ՞ս կը փոխանցեն նահատակներուն պատգամները… Միայն ամեակներ նշելը, դասախօսութիւններ կարդալը, շիրիմ նորոգելը, երգեր հիւսելը բաւարար չեն հայրենասիրութեան, հայրենատենչութեան եւ հայրենատիրութեան մէջ յառաջ երթալու եւ ազատ, անկախ ու միացեալ Հայաստանին հասնելու…
Լիզպոնի բազում երեսներէն այսօր կ՛ուզեմ առանձնացնել եւ կեդրոնանալ «զիջում»-ին վրայ: Այսօր մեզ միայն անհրաժեշտ է զիջիլ եւ ոչ յամառիլ, այսպէս ըսած «Նասրէտտին խոճա»-ի նման ըսել` ես տղամարդ եմ, խօսքս մէկ անգամ կ՛ելլէ բերնէս… Զիջիլ` այո՛, բայց ի՞նչ եւ որո՞ւ, թշնամի՞ին: Բնականաբար ոչ, թշնամիին մազաչափ մը անգամ, միլլիմեթր մը անգամ, փաստաթուղթ մը անգամ զիջելու իրաւունք չունինք, թշնամիէն միայն պէտք է պահանջել եւ ստիպել…
Ի՞նչ զիջեցան Լիզպոնի տղաքը` Արան, Սեդրակը, Սիմոնը, Վաչէն եւ Սարգիսը: Յանուն իրենց նպատակին, յանուն իրենց գործողութեան, յանուն ազատ, անկախ եւ միացեալ Հայաստանի տեսլականին զիջեցան իրենց կեանքը, զիջեցան իրենց հպարտութիւնը, վախը, ընտանիքները, կարօտը, երազը, եւ մանաւանդ` զիջեցան իրենց ԵՍԸ: Անոնք մէկ կողմ դրին ամէն ինչ, ամէն, բառին իսկական իմաստով ամէն ինչ, ներեցին բոլորին, ներեցին անգամ չներուողներուն, իրենց մահուան գիրկը ուղարկողներուն: Մաքրուեցան, մկրտուեցան եւ իրենց բռնած գործը աւարտեցին չակերտաւոր յաջողութեամբ…
Այսօր, 40 տարի ետք, մենք` բոլորս, ղեկավար թէ զինուոր, սպարապետ թէ բանուոր, կուսակցական թէ համակիր, կարիքը ունինք Լիզպոնի տղոց զիջելու դասէն քիչ մը սորվելու: Եթէ մենք այսօր չզիջինք, իրարու չներենք երկուստեք, ապա մեր անմիաբանութիւնը աւելի պիտի խորանայ ու խորանայ, եւ բնականաբար անմիաբանութեան աւարտը միայն փլուզումը կ՛ըլլայ: Կը յուսամ, որ այդ փլուզումը կանգնեցնեն Լիզպոնի մէջ անշնչացած մեր անմահ հերոսները` իրենց զիջելու, ներելու, խոնարհելու պատգամով…
Այսօր Լիզպոնի տղաքը կ՛ըսեն` բեմերէն այլեւս մի՛ խօսիք, թէ ժամը քանի՛ին յարձակումը սկսաւ, ժամը քանի՛ին աւարտեցաւ, ո՞վ առաջինը նահատակուեցաւ, յատուկ ջոկատի ոստիկանները եկան եւ այլն, եւ այլն: Այդ բոլորը ձեզ այսօր պէտք չէ, այսօր մենք ձեզի կոչ կ՛ուղղենք, որպէսզի զինուիք զիջողականութեամբ, որովհետեւ ոտքի կանգնելու ձեւը այժմ միայն այդ է…
Մեզի ամեակներ պէտք չեն, մեզի հայրենիք պէտք է: Եթէ չզիջիք ձեր Եսը այսօր, ապա պիտի զիջիք մեր երազած, բայց ոչ անհասանելի ազատ, անկախ եւ միացեալ հայրենիքի 30 տոկոսը եւս…
Յարգելի եւ ոչ յարգելի ղեկավարներ` պետական թէ կուսակցական, հոգեւոր թէ մշակութային, այսօր ունիք առիթ` լսելու անդենական աշխարհէն եկող կոչ մը, ունիք առիթ` կրակելու փամփուշտ մը, իսկ թիրախը հայելին է: Ձեզմէ իւրաքանչիւրը թող հայելիին դիմաց կանգնի, յիշէ տուած երդումը եւ կրակէ լիզպոնեան այդ փամփուշտը, որպէսզի ձեր հասկնալով, ձեր զիջելով, մենք կրկին անգամ հզօրանանք եւ Լիզպոնի տղոց հետ միասին ձեռք ձեռքի բարձրանանք ու բարձրացնենք մեր անաւարտ երազը` ազատ, անկախ եւ միացեալ Հայաստանի ստեղծումը…
Փա՛ռք քաջարի հերոսներուն…
Նզո՛վք վախկոտ ստրուկներուն…
