The Armenian church is not under attack. The Armenian State has not attacked the Church of Armenia. But the Catholicos of All Armenians is under attack and two of his Archbishops are detained because they have conspired with secular forces to oust the government of Armenia and allegedly broken their vows as celibate priests shepherding their flock, that is to say the faithful adherents of the Armenian Apostolic Church, they have vowed to adopt as their own family.
Obviously, the situation presents a fertile ground for interference. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Russian Foreign Minister Lavov has expressed Russian Federation's "concern" for the welfare of the Armenia's church.
But
At the end of this crisis, liken to an Armenian tunnel, there may not be light but there may be another tunnel.
Armenia either exits these crisis as a constitutionally driven sovereign state, in peace with its neighbors and with the superpowers of the region and of the world.
Or,
Armenia is in Russian Federation camp, much like Belarus is and per recommendation of Belarus' strong man, himself an oligarch, to the delight of the oligarchs in Armenia who are mostly from Karabakh, and have turned into opposition leaders and to high ranking bishops of Etchmiadzin who live beyond reproach and in cahoots with Russian Orthodox Church .
These crisis are a matter of livelihood for the citizens of Armenia but not to hyphenated Diaspora Armenians.
The citizens of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armeni declared, on August 23, 1990 in their Declaration of Independence aspiring in «Developing the democratic traditions of the independent Republic of Armenia established on May 28, 1918»; and on September 21, 1991 voted for a free, independent, democratic Republic. They have ways to go for a full fledge, sovereign Republic of Armenia in peace with its neighbors and with the regional and global world powers.
The citizens of Armenia either make their choice at the ballot box or by civil unrest or civil war and live the consequences of the choice they make.
I wish them perseverance a constitutionally driven struggle to attain our age old aspiration to live free and independent in our own sovereign, democratic republic.
