SAD NEWS FROM LEBANON

 Catholicos Aram I has declared 2022 the Year of the Armenian Diaspora. I  translated and attached a letter or a note, a friend wrote at the start of the year, inviting the readers to critically assess the existential issues the Armenians in the Middle East face.  The original is attached.

Lebanon

Good year, good Sunday, and a good second morning of the new year.

But what is good in Lebanon? Is it the noisy nights and mornings because of the running private electricity generators?  Is it the unlit, pitch-dark dungeon like midnights?  Or is it the disgusting smell of the burnt fuel and of the garbage accumulated on the street for months?

Is it the everyday gone ominous when the prices of the everyday essentials escalate by the minute? 

Or is it the negligent, the indifferent, the egocentric, the arrogant, the imperious – more adjectives could be added along the same line -  leaders of the country and its communities? 

That is the situation in Lebanon during the past few years.  The same characterized last year. The residents of Lebanon have given up having hopes for brighter days to come. 

Now, what can be said about the Armenian living abroad who, day in day out, scribbles on paper, at every opportunity, and at any minor incident the person becomes aware of, and makes a great effort to tarnish the current authorities in Armenia? Armenia is a country where the citizens enjoy a dignified life. In spite of the terrible war and its post-war aftermath. Its citizens, unlike those in Syria and in Lebanon, have no issues for running water or electricity the way Lebanon and Syria face. There is no shortage of supply of goods in Armenia. There is no comparable rise in the cost of living as well. For all the indicators, the sanctity of life and security of its citizens are very high.

We ask those who live in Lebanon or elsewhere:

Are the Lebanese Armenians lesser Armenians? 

Are the Armenians living in Syria, Iraq, Iran lesser human beings?  

Don’t they have existential issues?  

Why this neglect? 

Why such mindless partisan conducts that sow discord? 

Why this singular focus? 

Until when?

Բարի տարի, բարի կիրակի, բարի նոր տարուայ երկրորդ առաւօտ։

Բայց ո՞րն է բարին Լիբանանի մէջ։ ելեկտրածին մեքենաներու աղմկոտ գիշերն ու առաւօ՞տը՝ կէս գիշերներու անլոյս մութն ու զնտա՞նը, այրած վարելանիւթի գարշելի հո՞տը, ամիսներէ ի վեր փողոցը կուտակուած աղբը՞։

Չար լոյս եւ օրն ի բուն ,-վայրկեանն ի բուն,- ապրանքատեսակներու մագլցող գինե՞րը։

Եւ, անհոգ, անտարբեր, եսակեդրոն,ինքնահաւան, ամբարտաւան ( կարելի է աւելցնել յիշուած բառերու բոլոր հոմանիշներն ալ ) երկրի եւ համայնքներու քաղաքական վերնախաւը։

Ահաւասիկ, այս եղած է վերջին տարիներու Լիբանանի պատկերը. այսպէս կարելի է բնորոշել եւ արժեւորել անցնող տարին եւ Լիբանանաբնակը այլեւս յոյսեր չի տածեր պայծառ օրերու գալստեան։

Հիմա՝ Ի՞նչ ըսել երկրէն դուրս բնակող հայուն, որ թուղթ մրոտելով օրն ի բուն, ամէն առիթի եւ նուազգոյն պատահարի, մե՛ծ ջանք կը թափէ առատաւորելու Հայաստանի գործող իշխանութիւնները։

Երկրի մը մէջ, ուր հակառակ ահաւոր պատերազմին եւ յետպատերազմեան ստեղծուած վիճակին, Հայաստանի քաղաքացին կը վայելէ մարդավայել կեանք. ջուրի, ելեկտրականութեան հարց չունի, ապրանքատեսակներու չգոյութիւն չկայ, գիներու անհամեմատ մագլցում չկայ, կեանքի եւ ինչքի ապահովութեան ցուցանիշները շատ բարձր են։

Հարց կու տանք Հայաստանը , հայրենի իշխանութիւնները եւ հայրենաբնակ ժողովուրդը ոտնատակ ընող Լիբանան բնակող կամ արտերկրի «գլուխ գործոցներուն».

Լիբանան ապրող հայը նուա՞զ հայ է։ Սուրիահայը, իրաքահայը, պարսկահայը մարդ չէ՞, հարցեր չունի՞, անտագնապ կեա՞նք կը վարէ։

Ինչո՞ւ կը զլացուի անդրադարձ այս մասին։

Ինչո՞ւ այս անտեսումը։ Մինչեւ ե՞րբ այս հայութիւնը պառակտող անմտութիւնը։

Ինչո՞ւ այս միականիի վարմունքը։
